Hob Nob Wines asked indie rock-pop band and wine aficionados, Stars, which wines they prefer to have at home or on the road when touring. Here is lead singer Amy Millan’s response below:
“How can a person have a favourite wine? When with every meal, change of season, shift in mood, there are millions of nuances to each grape, varietal or blend that will surprise you. Any time anyone asks me how they can learn about wine, I say this- ”Try everything. Try a different wine every time you go to the store.” People who are new to wine can so easily be intimidated. I think taking out the snooty aspects and replacing them with only love and curiosity will create even better wines and wonderful life experiences.”
We couldn’t agree more!
When considering new artists for the label, the ATO team looks for acts with a truly unique and original sound. As we aren’t focused on one “genre” per say, we rather look for compelling songwriting and infectious live shows. We look for artists that show a real dedication and drive for developing their fanbase. We want to see a band that already has a passionate fanbase building, even if it’s only in a couple cities. Getting signed to the label isn’t the end of the hustle and hard work, it’s only the beginning! Our goal for breaking new artists is to follow and support their own vision and aesthetic while working on creative ways to widen their fanbase and exposure.
A perfect example of a new ATO artist that fits this overall mold is Kopecky Family Band. Check them out!
Hey HobNobbers! As you may have heard, we are running a special promotion this summer with our friends at ATO Records. Here’s a guest editor post from Paul, product manager at ATO, walking us through a quick tour of the record label’s history and the artists they work with.
According to Our Records (or ATO Records) was founded in early 2000 by Dave Matthews, Coran Capshaw, Chris Tetzeli, and Michael McDonald. The New York City-based label is home to a diverse group of artists across the musical spectrum. ATO’s first release was David Gray’s breakthrough record ‘White Ladder’ which went onto sell more than 7 million albums worldwide. Since then, ATO has released albums ranging from the Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela and South African singer-songwriter Vusi Mahlasela to massive rock records by My Morning Jacket and Alabama Shakes. Recent ATO releases include a special tribute to the songs of John Denver and a new album by the rising Nashville artist Caitlin Rose.
